Most recently Steve and the innovative DIG DEEP crew of DJs and live percussionists he’s proud to belong to have also landed a monthly residency at the uber-cool Bia Bar on Lower Stephen’s Street (first Saturday of every month). His free live mixes continue to fly out of his increasingly popular Soundcloud mix page at http://soundcloud.com/stevekinsey, where his current collection of 10 live mixes from various venues have received a staggering 6528 plays and 3751 downloads in just eleven months! Originally from Leeds in the north of England Steve Kinsey moved to Dublin way back in ’96 after serving his early clubbing apprenticeship in the legendary Leeds Warehouse and generally getting messy in some of the finest clubs Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool had to offer. His first taste of the Dublin music scene came in the form of pirate radio, where he hosted weekly shows on the sorely missed Jazz FM. His wildly eclectic ‘Lost in the Supermarket’ show – named after a Clash song from their seminal ‘London Calling’ album, just in case you were wondering – gained a large and loyal following during it’s four year tenure on the FM dial, and even received recognition and props from the mainstream UK dance music press with not one but two glowing reviews from Jockey Slut magazine. Further praise for his live and studio mixes was quickly forthcoming, most notably with a runners-up spot in Mixmag’s Bedroom Bedlam DJ mix competition. Meanwhile Kinsey was busy creating a bit of a buzz around town with his live gigs in the swanky boutique surroundings of The Morgan Hotel Bar on Fleet Street, originally sharing deck-duties with Conor Smith and Alan Robinson. During this transitional period Steve’s live sets started to move away from the smorgasbord of styles represented in his radio shows and to really focus in on his truly enduring and most heart-felt musical passions…namely forward-thinking house, deep-house, tech-house and techno. Steve Kinsey’s proudest and most notably high-profile achievement to date came when his live mix from Download at The Pod nightlclub in Dublin won top spot in DJ magazine’s coveted ‘Pick n Mix’ DJ competition, with his cutting-edge selection from that night displaying what DJ mag’s reviewers described as ‘astute choices and slick mixing’ (full press cutting above). His winning mix was also broadcast on KISS FM.
